My ideal reader in Margate

According to Caitlin Berve, your ideal reader is the person your writing is best fitted for. Whether a real person or not, an ideal reader is someone who is attracted to your writing and will stay with you.

My ideal reader is any Margate resident!

The subject matter of my writing will resonate with many age groups, but I need to consider that some people are daylong beachgoers/summer residents rather than full time residents. In Margate, there is a divide between the ‘shoobies’ and full time residents. The way I write about Margate should be universal for both audiences.

I am looking for readers with families down the shore. If you are able to rent a house in Margate for the summer, you are most likely be able to pay for my newsletter. These people will appreciate the newsletter in the summer, but love it even more when they’re missing the beach in the winter.

Margate doesn’t stop operating after Labor Day Weekend. I’m excited to cater to year round residents and winter visitors by updating them like any local news source would.

Since Margate is such a close-knit town, I can see myself walking up to anyone at the beach, pitching my Substack concept, and getting a new email address to send my newsletter to. I can post in Margate Facebook groups such as ‘Sitters Down the Shore,’ a babysitting group to connect parents with babysitters, to get my name out there. My posts will have to cater exactly towards the audience in whatever group I’m posting in.

I fear pushback from full time residents as I spend most of my time in Margate during the summer; however, I’ve been a resident for 15+ years. I am confident that I can find ‘ideal readers’ with simple research and connections.
